    Tanzania - Business Development and Marketing Internship

    The Dare Organization for Development and Human wellbeing in Tanzania (Dodhuta) was established in 2012 with young students from the University of Dar es salaam ‘UDSM’.

    We aim to:

    • Enhance the local health care provision capacity of hospitals and health care centers 

    • Ensure the availability of adequate education about AIDS prevention, enabling Tanzania to combat and prevent the transmission of the disease.

    • Provide scholarship or financial help to rural villages for their overall development

    • Empower women in the society. To advocate against female circumcision and to fight against the victimization of girls or women by anybody in the society on female circumcision or any other related issues.

    • Enhance social development which promotes democracy through participation and inclusion of the public in determining policy, and creating an conducive environment for accountable and good governance                           

    • Collaborate with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, Governmental agencies, donor Organizations, NGOs and other research institutes and entities to enhance the national capacity of policy analysis and development management;

    Intern Responsibilities:

    As Dodhuta is rapidly expanding, the need for a business development skills are now a priority to scale the Dodhuta organization, improve our business value chain and social business model.

    The Business Development and Marketing internship offer a unique opportunity to shape the marketing strategy of new program areas and campaigns. The intern should have strong business skills, product branding and able to turn an idea and drafted strategies into a scalable business model.

    Some examples of the position responsibilities and roles include:

    - Create the business framework for the social business

    - Collect information from interviews with staff and also baseline data sources to compile and track milestones and achievements for the year

    - Researching and identifying potential partnerships

    - Helping to shape the marketing strategy of new initiative

    Intern Responsibilities:

    Dodhuta is seeking a sharp individual with great communication, negotiating, presenting, networking and public speaking skills. The applicant should be assertive, creative and motivated to design fundraising activities, conduct fundraising and find and convince donors about funding the organization. Experience at proposal-writing is a pre. Tasks can include:

    1) Hosting fundraising events

    2) Writing proposals for grants

    3) Host network meetings

    4) Facilitate networking with potential donors

    5) Act as marketing/PR representative


  • Tanga Fresh

    Tanzania - Market research, Product Innovation, Logistics & Distribution Internship

    Tanga Fresh is the leading dairy food company in Tanzania's Tanga region, with a 50,000l/day processing capacity. The company was born of a Dutch-Tanzanian bilateral aid programme in 1985 to establish smallhlder dairy extension services in the region. Through the aid program farmers were taught and encouraged to keep dairy cattle. In 1992 the programme was registered as the Tanga Dairies Co-operative union (TDCU) and in 1996 a group of Dutch farmers entered into joint venture with TDCU to start Tanga Fresh to sell branded milk into the market. The dairy farmers in Tanga Region organize themselves in primary societies which run the milk collecting centres. They are entrusted with receiving quality milk from the farmers which is then chilled in bulk chillers ready for transportation to the factory for the processing.

    The company has needs in several areas: 

    For business students/graduates:

    1. Track the progress of small-scale milk producers, access development and advise on upgrading needs

    2. Marketing (develop online platform to facilitate customer relations)

    3. Market research & product innovation (survey new markets and advise how current markets can be better exploited; product improvement)

    4. Logistics and distribution (advise on how to improve logistics to improve delivery time and reduce transportation and handling costs)

    5. Technology and IT tools (help set up a data base management system at milk collection centre; introduce sms and radio programme communication system between milk producers and purchasers; design and upgrade a communication application used by 6,000 farmers [current MyPhoneExplorer is used])

    For students with specialized skills, i.e. any recognized studies related to the field, including dairy technology, food technology, mechanical engineering:  

    1. Sourcing survey on milk quality and supply between dry and rainy season -- analyze factors that cause variation and suggest improvements

    2. Analyze the status of milk collection centres and milk cooling accessories and suggest improvements

    3. Assisting capacity-building for farmers (advise on proper animal husbandry; record keeping; animal health and sound business principles in commercial farming)

    4. Milk processing hygiene and quality assurance

    The organizational management intern works on strengthening the management of the Dodhuta Foundation. Management interns have strong writing and analytical skills and are passionate about social change. Their work shapes the organization and helps improve the performance of the Foundation. The internship is highly demanding of your skills and there is a great opportunity to learn AND teach within the organization. Only interns with previous management experience can apply.
