Prof. Jay Mitra is Professor of Business Enterprise and Innovation, Director of MBA and Executive at Essex Business School, University of Essex, UK. He established the first School of Entrepreneurship and Business and its first International Centre for Entrepreneurship Research at the University of Essex and contributed directly to the development of Essex Business School. He also leads the International Entrepreneurship Forum, a unique network for researchers, policy makers and business practitioners working on entrepreneurship, innovation and regional development issues. He previously acted as a Scientific Adviser to the OECD, was a Professor of Entrepreneurship at 2 other universities in the UK, and has been a Visiting Professor of Universities in China, India and Italy. He has published widely on the subject of entrepreneurship, innovation and economic development and sits on the editorial of several economic journals.
This compulsory module is concerned with enabling students to acquire information, knowledge and a critical understanding of economic, sociological, psychological and managerial theories of enterprise creation and development and how they apply in practice in the world of business and other organisations. The focus is on the formation of new businesses, innovative growth, and their impact on economic and social development in different environments.
